If immigrants should speak German at home then Bavarians should also speak German at home

The CSU (Christian Social Union in Bavaria), a christian conservative party from Bavaria (Germany) suggested that immigrants should speak German at home! If this is an attempt to make foreigners welcome in Germany – they just managed it! Congratulations! How can anyone demand that foreigners speak German at home? I’m sorry, but at my home I decide in which language I speak. Actually we speak three languages at home, and we like to have this freedom – we can speak if we want one language in the morning, another in the afternoon and the third one in the evening. No politician will decide that for us. Actually, I would like to go further. If the CSU wants to force foreigners to speak German at home, then they should start at their own homes and speak only German. I will explain further: in Bavaria there is what the Germans call a “dialect” called Bavarian, a “language”, only understood in Bavaria and which varies from village to village, in a way that people from one village might not understand the people from 20 miles away! Bavarian is the “language” that the children still learn in small places in Bavaria, so that when they finish High-School some of them can barely speak High-German. A friend of mine who used to work at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) told me that once when he interviewed University applicants, he had an applicant who listed in his curriculum Bavarian as his mother language and German as a foreign language, and could hardly speak German!
Dear CSU, if immigrants mustn´t speak their language at home and should speak German at home, then the Bavarians mustn´t speak Bavarian at home and should speak German! What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
